The entire process is repeated in cycles. The process is air being pulled inside the furnace and warm air thrown out into the room. This is repeated until the thermostat is switched off by warm air.

Efficiency rating: The AFUE ( Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating of 90 percent or higher is recommended for a fuel efficient furnace.
Humidity Control: Renowned furnaces are equipped with automatic humidity and temperature control through an automatic humidifier and thermostat.
Ignition System: This should be automatic to avoid usage of matches or pilot lights. This is again essential for better efficiency.
